How to play: click START, then press the SPACE key on your keyboard as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first press. A physical keyboard is needed: taps on the screen are not counted.

This free 60 second spacebar test counts how many times you can press the SPACE key in one full minute. Your total presses is also your presses per minute, which makes it easy to compare and to track over time.

At the end you see your presses, your presses per second and an animal rank. The timer starts with your first press, so your reaction to the start button is not included.

How the 60 second spacebar test works

  1. Click START SPACE BAR TEST.
  2. Press SPACE. Your first press starts the one minute timer.
  3. Keep pressing as fast as you can until the time is up.
  4. Check your total presses, your presses per second and your rank.

Each press counts when you release the key, so holding SPACE down counts as one press. A physical keyboard is needed, because taps on the screen are not counted.

Presses per minute and your rank

Because the test lasts exactly one minute, your total presses is your presses per minute. Your rank is based on presses per second, which is your total divided by 60. For example:

  • 300 presses is 5 presses per second, the Turtle rank.
  • 420 presses is 7 presses per second, the Buffalo rank.
  • 543 presses or more is over 9 presses per second, the Cheetah rank.

A full minute at top speed is very tiring, so most people finish with a lower rank than in the short tests. That difference shows your stamina.

Tips for a one minute test

  • Find a pace you can hold for a minute. Start a little below your top speed and speed up near the end.
  • Switch fingers. Alternating two fingers or both thumbs spreads the effort.
  • Breathe normally. Holding your breath makes your hand tense.
  • Keep the keyboard steady. Make sure it cannot slide while you press.
  • Stop if it hurts. Pain in your hand or wrist is a sign to rest.
