2 Second Spacebar Test
How to play: click START, then press the SPACE key on your keyboard as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first press. A physical keyboard is needed: taps on the screen are not counted.
This free 2 second spacebar test counts how many times you can press the SPACE key in two seconds. It is still a short burst at maximum speed, but twice as long as the 1 second test, so a single missed or extra press has less effect on your result.

How the 2 second spacebar test works
- Click START SPACE BAR TEST.
- Press SPACE. The first press starts the two second timer.
- Keep pressing as fast as you can.
- When the time runs out, check your presses, presses per second and rank.
A press is counted when you release the key, so holding SPACE does not add extra presses. You need a physical keyboard, because taps on the screen do not count.
What does a 2 second test show?
Two seconds is long enough to smooth out a lucky first press, but too short for tiredness to matter. That makes it a good measure of your burst speed. Your presses per second here is usually close to your 1 second result and a little higher than your 10 or 15 second result.
It is also a quick way to warm up before longer spacebar tests or before a game where you need to tap the spacebar fast.
How to press the spacebar faster
- Pick your best finger. Many people are fastest with the thumb, others with the index finger. Try both.
- Alternate fingers. Using two fingers or both thumbs in turn can raise your speed.
- Keep movements small. Lift your finger only just enough for the key to come back up.
- Find a rhythm. Even, steady presses are faster than uneven bursts.
