1 Second Spacebar Test
How to play: click START, then press the SPACE key on your keyboard as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first press. A physical keyboard is needed: taps on the screen are not counted.
This free 1 second spacebar test counts how many times you can press the SPACE key in a single second. It is the shortest spacebar challenge on Click Tester: one burst of pure finger speed, over before you have time to think about it.
Because the timer only starts with your first press, the time you take to react to the start button does not count. Every press within that one second is added to your score, and at the end you see your total, your presses per second and an animal rank.
How the 1 second spacebar test works
- Click START SPACE BAR TEST.
- Press SPACE. Your first press starts the one second timer.
- Keep pressing as fast as you can until the time is up.
- Your result shows your presses, your presses per second and your rank.
Each press counts when you release the key, so holding SPACE down counts as a single press. Only real key presses count, which is why the test needs a physical keyboard.
Why a 1 second test?
A one second test measures your absolute top speed. There is no time to get tired, so your score shows how fast your finger or thumb can move at full effort. In one second, a single extra press changes your result by a whole press per second, so the scores are a little “jumpy”. Take a few tries and look at your best and your typical result.
If you want a steadier number, try the 2 or 5 second tests. For stamina, try 10 or 15 seconds.
Tips for a faster 1 second score
- Get ready before your first press. Rest your thumb or finger on the key so the burst starts straight away.
- Use a short, light movement. Press only as far as the key needs to register.
- Try two fingers. Some people are faster when they alternate two fingers or both thumbs.
- Stay relaxed. A tense hand moves slower than a loose one.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my score so different each time?
In one second, one press more or less changes your speed by 1 press per second. Short tests vary more, so compare your best results.
Does it work on a phone?
Only with a connected keyboard. Taps on the screen are not counted.
Can I cheat by holding the key down?
No. A press counts when you release SPACE, so holding the key counts as one press.
Is my score saved?
No. Each test starts from zero, and nothing is uploaded.
