Spacebar Games: Play Space Jump and Other One-Key Games Free
How to play: click or tap the game once so it has focus, then press SPACE, the Up arrow or W (or tap on a phone) to jump over the blocks. One touch ends the run. The speed keeps rising and your best score is saved on this device.
Spacebar games are browser games you control with one key: the spacebar. Space Jump, the game above, is a free one-key runner where you press SPACE to jump over blocks while the speed rises. Click Tester also has spacebar games that count presses against a timer, so you can test how fast you can hit the spacebar too.
Every game here runs in a normal browser tab. There is no download, no account and no paid version, and your best score stays on your own device.
How to play Space Jump
- Click or tap the game area once. The game only hears your keyboard while it has focus; otherwise SPACE scrolls the page instead.
- Press SPACE (or the Up arrow or W, or tap the screen) to start. The first press also makes your square jump.
- Jump over each block as it slides towards you. Low blocks and tall blocks both need a jump; there is no duck.
- Touch a block and the run ends with GAME OVER and your score.
- Wait half a second, then press SPACE or tap to play again. The short pause stops a held key from restarting the game by accident.
The SCORE counter is in the top right, with your BEST just below it. If you beat your best, the game over screen says “New best!”.
How Space Jump works: speed, score and jumps
Space Jump looks simple, but the rules behind it are fixed and the same for everyone, so a score means the same thing on any device. These numbers come straight from the game’s code, measured in the game’s own units (the play area is 800 units wide).
- Speed. The blocks start at 360 units per second and speed up by 14 units per second, every second, until they reach a top speed of 900. That takes about 39 seconds of play.
- Score. You earn points for distance, not for jumps. At the start you gain about 9 points a second; at top speed about 22.5 points a second.
- Jumps. Each jump keeps you in the air for about 0.68 seconds and lifts you about 140 units, more than twice the height of the tallest block. You can only jump from the ground, so pressing again in mid-air does nothing.
- Held keys. The game ignores key repeat. Holding SPACE gives one jump, not a stream of them, so every jump is a separate press.
- Blocks. About a third of the blocks are tall (44 to 60 units, against your 34 unit square) and about a third are wide. The gap before the next block shrinks as the speed rises, from at least 0.85 seconds at the start to at least 0.55 seconds at top speed.
- Fair hits. The collision box is trimmed by 4 units on each side, so a corner that only just brushes a block does not count.
Because the score depends only on how long you survive, you can turn a score into a run time:
| Score | Time survived (about) | What is happening |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 9 seconds | Slow start, wide gaps |
| 250 | 20 seconds | Speed is about 640 |
| 500 | 34 seconds | Close to top speed |
| 607 | 39 seconds | Top speed of 900 reached |
| 1,000 | 56 seconds | Full speed, tight gaps |
| 2,000 | 100 seconds | Full speed, a long run |
In other words, the first 600 points are a warm-up and everything after that is played at full speed. Once you pass about 600, every extra 100 points means roughly 4.5 more seconds without a mistake.
Tips for a higher Space Jump score
Most runs end because a jump was too early, not too late. These habits help:
- Jump later than feels natural. At top speed you travel about 615 units during one jump, which is most of the screen. Jump too early and you come down on the block.
- Watch the block, not your square. Pick a fixed spot just in front of the square and press when the leading edge of the block reaches it.
- Do not hold the key. A held key gives one jump only, so tap and release so you are ready for the next block.
- Tall blocks need the same timing. Every jump has the same height and length, and the jump clears the tallest block easily, so treat every block the same way.
- Stay on one input. Mixing SPACE, the Up arrow and the screen changes your timing. Pick one and stick with it.
If you lose the timing after a minute or two, take a break. Your reaction speed drops when you are tired, and the reaction time test shows how much it changes between a fresh try and a tired one.
Other spacebar games on Click Tester
Not all spacebar games are about timing. Some count your presses, and a few use the spacebar as one input among others. Here is every game and test on the site where the spacebar does the work:
| Game | What you do | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Space Jump (this page) | Press SPACE to jump over blocks | Until you hit one |
| Spacebar clicker | Press SPACE to raise a lifetime total with 15 levels | Endless |
| Spacebar counter | Press SPACE as fast as you can | 5 seconds |
| Timed spacebar tests | Same counter with a fixed timer | 1 to 120 seconds |
| F1 reaction game | Press SPACE when the lights go out | One start |
| CPS test | Click, or press SPACE or Enter, as fast as you can | 5 seconds |
Click the spacebar game: how many presses can you get?
If you searched for a “click the spacebar game”, a “how many times can you click the spacebar game” or a “how fast can you click the spacebar game”, you want a press counter, not a runner. The spacebar counter times you for 5 seconds and turns your presses into presses per second with an animal rank. Each press counts when the key comes back up, so holding SPACE counts once and you cannot cheat by leaning on it.
For a space bar game with timer lengths other than 5 seconds, pick one of the timed tests: the 1 second spacebar test for a single burst, the 10 second or 30 second spacebar test for a fair comparison with friends, and the 60 second or 120 second spacebar test for stamina. These tests need a physical keyboard.
Space bar game clicker with no timer
The spacebar clicker is the endless version. Every press adds one to a total that is kept between visits, and the levels run from 50 presses up to 100,000. It shows your presses per second as you go, which makes it a calm way to spam the spacebar game style without a clock. Unlike the timed tests, it also accepts taps on a phone.
The Google spacebar game: the Chrome dinosaur
When people search for the “google spacebar game”, they almost always mean the Chrome Dinosaur Game. Google added it to Chrome in September 2014, and it was made by members of the Chrome UX team. It appears on Chrome’s “no internet” page: press SPACE or the Up arrow to start, SPACE to jump over cacti, and the Down arrow to duck under the flying pterodactyls. On a phone you tap the dinosaur.
You do not have to switch your internet off to play. Type `chrome://dino` into Chrome’s address bar and press Enter. The game speeds up gradually until you hit something, and Chrome has saved your high score since November 2018.
Space Jump plays the same way, with a few differences: it works in any modern browser, not only Chrome, it runs inside this page, and it reaches its top speed in about 39 seconds. There is no duck, so every block is a jump.
Can you play spacebar games at school or on a phone?
Yes, on most devices. Space Jump is a keyboard spacebar game that also works by touch. It runs in a normal browser tab on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS and Linux, and on phones and tablets you tap the game instead of pressing a key. It uses no download and no plug-in, which is what people usually mean when they look for a spacebar game unblocked.
Whether a school or work network lets you open a site is up to that network’s administrator, so follow their rules. This site does not try to get around filters. If the page loads but the game does not react, click inside it first so it has keyboard focus.
On a phone, the timed spacebar tests need a real keyboard, but Space Jump, the spacebar clicker and the CPS test all accept taps.
Spacebar games as one-button games
A one-button game is a game you can play with a single input, and the space bar game is the most common kind on a computer. That makes them useful for players who use an accessibility switch. OneSwitch, a UK site about accessible gaming, notes that accessibility switches are often simple on/off push buttons, and its USB switch interface can send the SPACE key as its key press.
Space Jump works with any input that sends SPACE, the Up arrow or W, or that acts as a click or tap on the game. The rules never ask for a second key, and the game waits on its start screen until you press. One honest limit: the game does not have a slower mode, and the speed rises on its own, so it may be too fast for some switch users once a run goes past 30 seconds or so.
Is your spacebar the problem?
If jumps seem to go missing, the cause is sometimes the keyboard rather than your timing. A worn spacebar can need more pressure on one side, and some cheap keyboards ignore a key while several others are held. Two quick checks:
- Press SPACE slowly 20 times in the spacebar counter. If the total is lower than 20, some presses are not reaching the computer.
- Press SPACE near the left end, the middle and the right end. If one end fails more often, the key’s stabiliser may need cleaning.
For your mouse buttons, the mouse test and the double click test do the same job.
More games to play
If you like quick one-input games, the clicker games page lists every game on the site with how each one works. Coreball is a one-tap timing game with 60 levels, and the aim trainer is the mouse equivalent of a reflex game. For pure typing on the full keyboard, try the typing speed test.
Frequently asked questions
What is a spacebar game?
A spacebar game is a game you control mainly or only with the spacebar. Some, like Space Jump and the Chrome dinosaur, use it to jump at the right moment. Others, like the spacebar counter, count how many times you can press the spacebar in a set time.
How do I play Space Jump?
Click the game once, then press SPACE, the Up arrow or W to jump over the blocks. On a phone, tap the game. The run ends when you touch a block, and you can press again after half a second to restart.
Is Space Jump free?
Yes. It is free to play in your browser with no download, and no sign-up. The same goes for every game and test on Click Tester.
Is my best score saved?
Yes, on your device. Space Jump stores your best score in your browser’s local storage, so it is still there when you come back on the same browser. Clearing your site data, using a private window or switching browser starts you from zero, and scores are not shared with other players.
What is the Google spacebar game?
It is the Chrome Dinosaur Game, which Google added to Chrome in 2014. Press SPACE to start and jump, or type chrome://dino into Chrome’s address bar to play without going offline.
Why does pressing space scroll the page instead of jumping?
The game is not focused yet. Click or tap inside the game area once, and SPACE then goes to the game instead of the page. If you click somewhere else on the page, click the game again.
How fast can you click the spacebar?
Use the spacebar counter to find out: it counts your presses for 5 seconds and shows presses per second. For a longer test, the timed spacebar tests run from 1 to 120 seconds. Space Jump does not reward speed, because it only needs one well-timed press per block.
Does holding the spacebar make Space Jump easier?
No. The game ignores held keys, so holding SPACE gives one jump. You also cannot jump again until you land, so the only way to score well is to time each press.
