100 Second Spacebar Test
How to play: click START, then press the SPACE key on your keyboard as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first press. A physical keyboard is needed: taps on the screen are not counted.
This free 100 second spacebar test is a long endurance challenge for your SPACE key. You press as fast as you can for one hundred seconds, and at the end you see your total presses, your presses per second and an animal rank.
A nice side effect of the 100 second length: your total divided by 100 is your presses per second, so the maths is easy. The timer starts with your first press.
How the 100 second spacebar test works
- Click START SPACE BAR TEST.
- Press SPACE. Your first press starts the 100 second timer.
- Keep pressing as fast as you can until the time is up.
- Check your total presses, your presses per second and your rank.
Each press counts when you release the key, so holding SPACE down counts as one press. A physical keyboard is needed, because taps on the screen are not counted.
What your result means
Your presses per second is simply your total divided by 100. Some examples:
- 350 presses is 3.5 presses per second, the Sloth rank.
- 550 presses is 5.5 presses per second, the Turtle rank.
- 700 presses is 7 presses per second, the Buffalo rank.
- 905 presses or more is over 9 presses per second, the Cheetah rank.
Over 100 seconds, the ability to keep going matters more than your top speed. Compare your result with a short test such as the 5 second test to see how much you slow down.
How to get through 100 seconds
- Start well below your top speed. You can always speed up at the end.
- Use two fingers or both thumbs in turn. This lets each finger rest between presses.
- Stay relaxed. A light touch uses less energy than pressing hard.
- Sit comfortably. Support your wrist and keep your shoulders loose.
- Rest afterwards. Give your hand a few minutes before another long test.
