10 Second Spacebar Test
How to play: click START, then press the SPACE key on your keyboard as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first press. A physical keyboard is needed: taps on the screen are not counted.
This free 10 second spacebar test counts how many times you can press the SPACE key in ten seconds. It is long enough that your finger starts to tire, so it measures not just your top speed but how well you keep it up.
The timer starts with your first press. At the end you see your total presses, your presses per second and an animal rank.
How the 10 second spacebar test works
- Click START SPACE BAR TEST.
- Press SPACE. Your first press starts the ten second timer.
- Keep pressing as fast as you can for the full ten seconds.
- Check your presses, presses per second and rank.
Each press counts when you release the key, so holding SPACE does not add presses. A physical keyboard is needed, because taps on the screen are not counted.
Why take a 10 second test?
Most people can hold their top speed for a few seconds, then slow down as the muscles in the hand and forearm tire. A 10 second test shows how much you slow down. If your presses per second here is close to your 2 second result, your stamina is very good.
Because the rank is based on presses per second, reaching a high rank over ten seconds is harder than over one or two. For example, Cheetah needs more than 90 presses in ten seconds.
How to keep your speed for 10 seconds
- Do not sprint the first second. Start at a pace you can hold, then push at the end.
- Alternate fingers. Switching between two fingers or both thumbs spreads the effort.
- Breathe. Holding your breath makes your hand tense.
- Keep your wrist supported. Let the movement come from your finger, not your arm.
- Stop if it hurts. Rest your hand between tries.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I get slower near the end?
Your finger muscles tire after a few seconds of maximum effort. Practice and a relaxed technique help you hold your speed longer.
Does it work on a phone?
Only with a connected keyboard. Taps on the screen are not counted.
Is the rank harder to reach in 10 seconds?
The thresholds are the same presses per second for every length, but holding a high speed for ten seconds is harder.
Is my score saved?
No. Each test starts from zero, and nothing is uploaded.
