15 Minute Typing Test

How to play: click the text box and type the highlighted word, then press SPACE. The 15 minute timer starts with your first key. Press ESC to restart with new words.

This free 15 minute typing test is the longest timed test on Click Tester. It measures the typing speed and accuracy you can keep up over a long session, which is the best guide to how you type during real work such as writing, data entry or transcription.

The test uses random common English words, so every attempt is new. Your best 15 minute score is saved in your browser on this device.

How the 15 minute typing test works

  1. Click the text box. The first word is highlighted.
  2. Type the word and press SPACE. The 15:00 countdown starts on your first key.
  3. Correct words turn lime. Mistakes turn red and are crossed out.
  4. After 15 minutes you see your words per minute (WPM), accuracy and number of mistakes.

WPM is calculated from the characters of every correct word, including spaces, divided by 5 and then by 15 minutes. Mistyped words do not count towards your speed.

Who is a 15 minute typing test for?

  • People who type all day. If your job involves long stretches of typing, a long test shows the speed you really work at.
  • Anyone training for long assessments. Practising for 15 minutes makes shorter tests feel easy.
  • Typists building endurance. Comparing your 1 minute and 15 minute scores shows exactly how much your speed drops over time.

What is a good 15 minute typing score?

Over 15 minutes, a result close to your 1 minute score is a sign of excellent stamina. As a general guide, around 40 WPM is often quoted as an average for regular typists, 60 WPM is fast, and experienced touch typists often stay above 80 WPM. Accuracy matters even more over a long test, so aim to stay at 95% or above.

Getting ready for a long typing test

  • Prepare your space. Sit comfortably with your screen at eye level and your forearms roughly level with the keyboard. You cannot pause once you start.
  • Warm up first. Take a 1 minute test before the long one so your fingers are ready.
  • Choose a pace you can hold. Starting at full speed usually leads to mistakes and a slower finish.
  • Keep your hands light. Pressing keys gently saves energy over 15 minutes.
  • Look after yourself. If your hands, wrists or eyes feel strained, stop and take a break. Long typing sessions are best broken up with regular rests.
