Auto Clickers and CPS Tests
An auto clicker is software or a macro that clicks the mouse for you, often far faster than any person can. People use them for idle games, for repetitive work and to see how fast a click test can go. This guide explains what an auto clicker test really measures, why auto clicked scores do not count as records, and what the big Minecraft servers say about using them.
Want to measure your own speed instead? Take the CPS test without any software running.
What is an auto clicker?
Wikipedia defines an auto clicker as “a type of software or macro that can be used to automate the clicking of a mouse on a computer screen element.” Most let you choose the click interval, which button to press and where on the screen to click. Some gaming mice and keyboards can also repeat clicks through their own software or a dedicated button.
The important point: an auto clicker produces clicks without your finger. Whatever number it reaches says how the software is set up, not how fast you are.
What an auto clicker test measures
A CPS test counts every click it receives and divides by the test length. Click Tester’s tests count the click events the page receives; they do not try to tell human clicks from automated ones. That has two consequences:
- You can use a CPS test to check an auto clicker. If you want to know how many clicks per second a program actually delivers to a web page, run it on the 10 second click test or the 1 second CPS test and compare the result with the interval you set.
- An auto clicked score is not your score. The animal rank you get at the end describes the software. If you want a number that means something, turn the auto clicker off.
It is also normal for the measured speed to differ from the setting. The program, the operating system and the browser all need time to process each click, so very high settings may not arrive at the page at the full rate.
Why auto clicked records do not count
Record keepers reject automated clicking. RecordSetter, a community site that lists mouse clicking records, states for its 10 second record that the “use of auto-clickers not permitted”, and the widely repeated claim of 1,051 clicks in 10 seconds is marked denied for breaking that rule. A 1,271 click claim on the same page is denied too, and the approved record is far lower.
For the records that stand up to checking, see our CPS world records page.
Are auto clickers allowed on Minecraft servers?
Mostly not in multiplayer, and the rules are usually explicit. These are taken from the servers’ own rule pages:
| Server | What its rules say |
|---|---|
| Hypixel | Anything that automates a player action is disallowed, including auto or burst clicking buttons and macros. A macro or AutoClicker is a listed reason for a ban. |
| CubeCraft | Recommends 15 CPS or less, may kick players above that, and bans drag clicking, double clicking and mouse changes that lower debounce time. |
| PvP Legacy | Does not allow auto clickers, macros or any other form of click automation. |
| ManaCube | Lists autoclickers in its cheating rules, with punishment based on the advantage gained. |
Hypixel says its Watchdog anticheat runs on the server and looks for “irregularities from a vanilla client or improbable behavior”. Servers rarely explain exactly how they spot automated clicking, and you should assume that they can.
Burst or turbo buttons on gaming mice count as automation under rules like Hypixel’s, even though they are hardware. If a button sends more than one click per press, keep it switched off on servers that ban macros.
Risks of downloading auto clicker software
Be careful where you get any clicking or cheat software. Hypixel warns that “some cheats often contain malicious code to steal information or install other malicious software on your computer”, and advises using good judgement with programs downloaded online. That warning applies to anything that promises an advantage in a game, so if you do use an auto clicker for single player or work tasks, get it from a source you trust.
Legitimate uses
Auto clickers are not only for cheating. People use them for:
- Idle and clicker games played alone, where clicking thousands of times adds nothing but strain.
- Repetitive work tasks, such as clicking the same button many times in a form or test environment.
- Accessibility, for people who find repeated clicking painful or difficult.
- Testing software and hardware, for example checking that a page or a click counter handles fast input.
The rule of thumb: alone and offline is usually fine; anywhere you compete with or against other people, check the rules first.
How to raise your real CPS instead
If the goal is to click faster yourself, these work and do not break rules on most servers:
- Learn a technique such as jitter, butterfly or drag clicking, but check the server rules first, because some servers ban drag and double clicking.
- Practise a few minutes a day on the CPS test and track your progress.
- Read What Is a Good CPS? to set a realistic target.
- For Minecraft fights, timing often beats speed: see our Minecraft PvP tips.
Frequently asked questions
Can a CPS test detect an auto clicker?
Click Tester’s tests count every click the page receives and do not try to detect automation, so an auto clicker simply produces a high score. Game servers are different: they use anticheat systems that look for unusual behaviour.
What is the fastest auto clicker?
Speed depends on the program’s settings and on how quickly your computer and browser can process clicks. Run it on a CPS test to see how many clicks actually arrive. Whatever the number, it measures the software, not you.
Will I get banned for using an auto clicker in Minecraft?
On many servers, yes. Hypixel lists the use of an AutoClicker as a ban reason, and PvP Legacy and CubeCraft also ban automated clicking. Single player worlds have no such rules.
Is a turbo or burst button on my mouse allowed?
Not on servers that ban automation. Hypixel’s rules name auto and burst clicking buttons specifically, even though they are part of the mouse.
Do auto clicked scores count as world records?
No. RecordSetter does not permit auto clickers and has denied record claims that used them.
Is drag clicking the same as auto clicking?
No. Drag clicking is a manual technique where your finger makes the button bounce. Some servers still ban it, so check the rules. Our drag clicking guide explains how it works.
